Obituary for Verna Mae Smith (Kidd)

Verna Mae Smith, 83, formerly of Effingham KS died Saturday, April 27, 2019 at the Atchison Senior Village Nursing Home.

Funeral services will be 11:00 am on Tuesday, April 30, 2019 at the Becker Chapel, 402 3rd St, Effingham, KS with Rev. Jeff Cochran officiating. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery, Effingham, KS. The family will receive friends from 6:30 until 8:00 pm on Monday, April 29th, 2019 at the Becker Chapel in Effingham, KS. Verna Mae Kidd was born on May 2, 1935 in Kimball, NE the daughter of Guy V. and Eva Mae (Mellott) Kidd. She moved to Effingham from Dickinson TX in 1992. Verna worked as a sewing machine operator for the Topeka Tent & Awning. She was a member of the Faith Bible Fellowship Church, Atchison KS, Weight Watchers, and enjoyed crocheting, and traveling.

She was married to Charlie M. Smith on Sept. 18, 1964 in San Antonio, TX. Mr. Smith survives of the home in Effingham. Additional survivors include a sons, Martin L.(Dena) Smith, Meriden, KS and three daughters, Diana M Stone, Topeka, KS and Debra K. (Allen) Cell, Lake Perry, KS, Delores A. Garfrerick, Alpine, AL and a sisters, Claire E. Oberle, Ft. Wayne, IN, fifteen grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. Her parents, two sons, Timothy J. and William A. Smith, a daughter, Patricia M Smith, two brothers, Guy Verne Kidd and Louis Kidd, and two sisters, Alberta L. Mangum and Rena Keatel and two grandchildren preceded her in death.
