Mary Margaret Underwood, 67 of Atchison KS, passed away Sunday, December 23, 2018, at the Atchison Hospital.
Memorial service will be 3:00 PM, Saturday, December 29, 2018 at the First Baptist Church, Atchison, KS, with Rev. Michael Strickland officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Family will receive friends prior to the service from 2:00 to 3:00 PM at the church. Memorials are suggested to First Baptist Church or American Cancer Society and may be sent in care of the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home who is handling the arrangements. Mary was born October 23, 1951 in Clarinda, IA, the daughter of James and Marjorie (Parker) Lane. She graduated from West Nodaway RI High School in 1969 and then attended Gard Business University. Mary worked for the Social Security Administration from 1970 to 1972 and the Department of Defense from 1973 to retirement in 1999. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, serving as a Sunday school teacher and the Mission Board. Mary also was a member of Amelia Earhart Chapter 621 National Association of Active and Retired Federal Employees serving as Vice President and Public Relations. She enjoyed sewing and counted cross-stitch and puzzles.
Mary married Ronald Underwood on December 23, 1972, he survives of the home. Additional survivors include a son James and Chasity Underwood, Atchison, KS, four grandchildren, Jaden, Alaina, Collin, and Andrew Underwood and two sisters, Carol Ann (Robert) Payne, Maryville, MO, Susan (Gordon) Postle, Lansdowne, VA, She was preceded in death by her parents.
