Obituary for Jay C. Jewell
Jay C. Jewell, 54, was killed in a truck accident near Bendena, KS, on Monday evening June 3, 2019. Jay was born August 4, 1964 in Wahoo, NE, the son of Don and Jan Jewell. The family moved to Leavenworth, KS, in 1966.
Jay graduated from LV HS, spent two years in the US Navy, returned to Leavenworth where he wed. He was a proud father of 3 children; Kaitlin, Emilee and Tyler. Upon the dissolution of his marriage and the loss of the family home due to the death of his father Jay moved to Atchison, KS.
Jay pursued his trade as a Carpenter. He volunteered his skills to enable the annual Juneteenth celebration to be a success. Jay could not escape his pain but always tried to help others to do so.
Jay is survived by two of his children Kaitlin and Tyler, 5 grandchildren; his mother Jan Jewell, Brothers Lee B. Jewell and wife Margie, Jeffery S. Jewell, Nephew and best friend Jeffery A. Jewell and 5 nieces.
Jay was preceded in death by one daughter Emilee; father Don Jewell, brothers; Brad G. and Chip E. Jewell. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions will be used for funeral expenses. Funds managed by the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home, 800 Kansas Ave, Atchison, KS. 66002.
Memorial service will be at the Riverbend Church, 1145 Commercial St., Atchison, KS, 2:00 p.m., 19 June. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Cemetery, Highway 7, Atchison.
