Obituary for Edna Louise Higley (Pike)

Edna Louise Higley, 86, of Nortonville, KS, formerly of Lancaster, KS passed away Saturday, June 15, 2019 at the Village Villa Nursing Home, Nortonville, KS.

Edna has been cremated and a private family burial of cremated remains will be at a later date. Memorials are suggested to Alpha Christian Children’s Home and may be sent in care of the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home who is handling the arrangements. Edna was born October 20, 1932 in Rushville, MO the daughter of Arthur and Hazel (Frazier) Pike. In her younger years she worked for Hallmark in Kansas City and then bartended at several different establishments such as Riverbend, Shirley’s Tavern and the Lancaster Café. Edna also was a housewife and homemaker. She was a member of the Farmington Christian Church and she enjoyed crafts, baking, fishing, small game hunting and cooking. Edna’s was the place for local kids to go for her taco’s, sloppy joes, and cookies. She also loved to make Christmas candy boxes for family, friends, and local businesses.

Edna married Donald C. Higley on May 23, 1958 at the First Christian Church, he preceded her in death on June 15, 2011. Survivors include two children, Richard Higley, Lancaster, KS, Karen Tennison Harveyville, KS, three brothers, Arthur Pike, TX, Tom Pike, St. Joseph, MO, Gary Pike, O’Fallon, MO, five sisters, Donna Beck, Olathe, KS, Helen Blalock, Kansas City, MO, Loretta Enzor, Warrensburg, MO, Shirley Owsley, Independence, MO, Linda Johnson, Independence, MO, grandchildren, Dara Gibson, Zachary Tennison, Garet Tennison, Matthew Tennison, Sarah Tennison and six great grandchildren with one on the way.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, and a sister, Frances Zerr.
